Public Property Hunting, WMA's and such question
Man the threads lately about public land hunting is absolutely crazy. I for one have a lease and have had one for a very long time now. But it is really like that, f'rs pulling guns and threating folks because of a he said she said thing? If so, its sad that folks need to include the law and WLF agents to handle issues. Reminds me of catahoula lake. WE had a lease on Angelina Plantation for years and heard horror stories about them.

Re: Public Property Hunting, WMA's and such question
I have never encountered any thing like that. I stay around mcfadden and anahuac wma in east tx. People will set up close but it is what it is. Its public land. I don't scream holler cuss. I just deal with it. I try to go further than the outboards or the walk ins so it cuts the crowd down a bit.
Its a shame for sure. My wife hunts almost every hunt with me. She will walk the deepest mud and hunt the coldest days but sometimes it's embarrassing to bring her on how people act. Won't go into any detail but it's public land and we just learn to deal with it. Wish common sense and etiquette would kick in but it's just how people are.

Re: Public Property Hunting, WMA's and such question
What it boils down to is people need to know the laws. But sounds like down there they need to put them on a billboard at each ramp. If I had to deal with people like that all the time I would either quit duck hunting and pick up a new hobby or find somewhere else to hunt.
Ignorance is to blame.

Re: Public Property Hunting, WMA's and such question
Problem is here at Catahoula is that half the time the game wardens are the ones cussing and threatening everyone in the blinds. They all hunt on the lake so there's really no one to call. And if you do call they won't do anything about it. GW in central La are pretty much worthless all the way around. It really does get bad with other people too. Last year I had 3 high school kids from Effie try to set up 100 yards from me under a little tree at like 9 in the morning. Told them they were too close and they might get shot and hurt and they started screaming we'll shoot back and there's more of us than you and all this other bs. Told them I was a crazy mf'er and I had my rifle in the blind with me and had no problem dusting all three of them and I knew the land well enough no one would find them. Luckily they didn't call my bluff and they left and got the picture but it's literally some shit like that every day. I'm getting on another lease this next year and I doubt I do much public land hunting anymore. That or fish more.

I've hunted the delta a few times in my lifetime, but didn't have issues like I'm reading. I guess I was just brought up on family land and leases.

I've never had this issue in our public hunting areas.

Re: Public Property Hunting, WMA's and such question
I don't think some have the correct geographic perspective on the problem. The area commonly referred to as the North Flats encompasses an inundated area totaling only about 2 square miles or about 1500 acres, and much less when the water recedes, roughly 1/2 of which is school board property. Within this area only about 30 spots or less are historically productive and we all know where they are, except the new comers. Within those 30 spots, only 10 are really good. It is those that are always hotly contested.

Public Property Hunting, WMA's and such question
It is, but being where's it's at, primarily in open water, it would be pretty hard for the leasee to keep trespassers out.
However, they do have a section 28 property that they do lease out for ag production. That is a whole other argument a certain forum member is stirring shit about.

Re: Public Property Hunting, WMA's and such question
Put up the signs that say "if caught trespassing your next of kin will be notified" that's what my grandpa used to do. His crazy old ass enforced it too
It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

Re: Public Property Hunting, WMA's and such question
Posted signs are often ignored where I hunt for the simple fact that every year people put out posted signs all over public property to fool the new comers. At some point over the past few years most of the public canals and bays have been posted at one time or another.

Re: Public Property Hunting, WMA's and such question
I just take a 5 gal bucket of corn with me and throw it around the permanent blinds. Game wardens like corn
It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

Re: Public Property Hunting, WMA's and such question
Fill a 50 gallon drum half with rice the rest with water put on the lid and let it sit in the sun for a few weeks. Use the stinky concoction to pour around the blind but be sure not to let it come in contact with the water ( puts a oil sheen on the water ) . Better yet dump the water in some ones pond you don't like and call the game warden lol
