Guys I am sanding my new boat with 80 grit to give the paint something to grab on to. I intend to Allumabrite/ acid wash it. Will the primer and paint stick good in areas that i cannot get a sander? these areas ( corners and areas around the storage doors) Will be alumabrited but im worried the paint wont stick as well because it isnt roughed up or sanded there. Also im in illinois what type of acid should i buy or where can i find alumbrite?

Most don't sand at all. You'll be fine.

Scuff it with scotch brite, acetone wipe down, self etching primer and you're set to paint...

80 grit is a little rough.


Most liberals seem to suffer from the same mental condition....it's called stupidity!

We paint aluminum all the time, 80 is rough!! go get ya some red scotch bright and some acetone> etching will work but from experience it must be gone over throughly with the scotch bright and cleaned. The most important thing about getting the adhesion you want is to make sure its CLEAN. wash it down with dawn dish soap a couple times, wipe it down with acetone or a wax and grease remover and get with the scotch bright. Before you etch wipe it down again with acetone. If you are simply painting your boat, we use a single stage paint! If prep is done properly you wont have an issue with adhesion

ok thanks, i went 80 because a had full of ppl i read used 60 and i wanted finer grit. I plan to wash it a least twice before painting, and an acetone wipe down right before
