Wanting to convert to a remote steer need some advice
Right now I have a 18x48 tiller steer and ive been throwing around the idea of remote steering. I really want to do a stick steer but as far as I can tell no one has done this on a gator tail and I have no knowledge on how it is set up even on the PD. Personally I don't do enough boating in the type of area where I would need the sudden steering that the tiller provides and since im mostly making long runs to bow fishing spots or just joy riding im mostly looking for comfort. For those of yall that have made the swap what was your overall opinion (for those who have done the swap yourself was it a big deal). if its possible to do a stick steer to have the "air boat" kind of control I would much rather do that but I am also open to the CC idea. Any input is appreciated. thanks in advance

I recently had my boat converted to remote steering, for the same reasons you identified. I went with a side console to save room with hydraulic steering. It is a pleasure to drive and I'd probably never go back to a tiller steering system. I realize the hydraulic steering is expensive but it is worth every penny in comfort and safety. Good Luck with the project, you won't regret doing it.

Cc the way to go. One consideration with stick vs console is how much taller your boat will be. Aside from that stick steer seems like a great compromise of console and tiller. Also the stick setup seems like it would take up more than a console.

If you don't often put your boat in situations where you need to work your motor hard, then go with the cc over the stick steer.

Console driven is the way to go for me and I run a lot of timber and winding bayous. I doubt I have another tiller rig. Been running one all season and it sucks!

But you would still be on top of the seat right? So the tallest object on the boat would be the driver.

Okay so CC it is. Gonna build my own console and whatnot so where do I need to start with the steering? Probably gonna convert the reverse system to what gator tail uses on they're CC rigs. Can I get the steering from GT also? Or is there a better place to get it.

Wasnt trying to be a smartass Jesse, I was getting at that on that setup you would be sitting up high. So any tree, limbs ect.. would be making contact with you instead of the front of a console.

Me either. Sounds like he's making the right choice.
