Post 1648 G3 - conversion
I have a 1999 - 1648W G3 with a yamaha 30 outboard that I an considering converting to Go-Devil 37 EFI. I am looking at ghis primarily due to a resellar local and friends with same model. Between the friends and local dealer, I feel safer froma mechanicsl stadpoint.

Has anyone had this hull configuration or similar that can shed light on the performance?

The hull is rated for 35 hp, but I still need the dealer to inspect the transom and give their recommendation. With the 30 outboard, it runs in 28-29 range

A friend had a alweld 1648 with a 35 gtr on it and it did fair. He now has a gator tail boat and it performs much better. It will work but not good. I would guess you will run about 23 to 25 light and struggle with a load. If you run any stumps be careful or it will trash the boat fast.

Amobley on here runs a 15x48 G3 with big block go devil. That seems slow for 30 outboard on that boat, my 16x48 runs faster with a big block mud motor.

Being new to surface drives, what would csuse the reduced performance with the G3 hull versus an another hull?

I'm running a 1648 Alumacraft welded hull, 16 inch transom with a stock 31hp GT(no reverse). I get solid 27 mph with just me, but it drops off a bit with a load . It all revolves around balancing your weight distribution so the boat runs as flat as possible. When running alone, my spray is directly under me on the rear bench. I've carried as many as five counting myself, three across the middle bench and one on a milk crate behind them, with hunting gear, and everyone felt perfectly safe. My boat is a tin can, but I don't run timber or stump beds and its held up pretty good.

X2 My 1648 Alumacraft will run mid thirties with a Modded MB 4500 turning a Hammer prop, and will plane out easily with 5 people. Have a friend with a Prodrive 35 on the same G3 boat with a hardsided blind does really well with three guys and gear.
