Post Momarsh fatboy dp with longtail question
Hey guys I've been recently looking at buying a momarsh fatboy and a ppf motor. What kind of speeds am I looking at with stock or modified motor? Planning on. Running the predator motor. Also curious what these boats can run through. I hunt southflorida and want to be able to push through some thick curtails and sawgrass to get to the holes in the glades. Any info and help would be awesome. Thanks Guys!

Hey I just took a look at the fat boy boat. It's fiber glass. It's rated for 2 hp.
That's not really going to work out here unless you are hunting close to the dock. Our runs are like 10 miles.
Mostly water and trails. Occasional cat tails. Lots of sawgrass. It will take you forever to get out there with that setup.
Lake o has closer areas. But with that setup you'd have to becareful with waves and other hunters not seeing you.

I'd recommend getting a nice motor engine setup (what you can afford)
Then slapping it on a cheap flat Jon boat. Like 400-500 bucks.
Not only will it be more comfy. It'll go faster. Hunt more people. And it's safer.

I would check out the Four Rivers EBADS boat. I will be more stable a be able to handle a bigger motor if you need it. The MoMarsh hull isn't the best design, watch some videos and you'll see what I mean. You have to put a lot of weight in the front to balance it out, Its like riding a surfboard. Tom at Four Rivers builds a better boat IMO anyway, very nice guy too. The MoMarsh boats are built cheap, they are only well known. Regardless you'll love using a layout boat and the ducks won't see you. We use them in mid Missouri with great success. As long as the boat floats a mud motor will push it and Tom will tell you how fast a motor will push his boat.

I have the MoMarsh Fatboy DP and a stock PPF Wood Duck 7 hp longtail. I love this setup. I have put it through tall weeds and buck brush in less than 10" of water. I will tell you if you don't get it wedged between two solid objects and can keep the cavitation plate under the water, you WILL go through whatever you point it at. I also have 5 coats of GG2 on the hull.

I get a tad over 18 mph by myself (BUT) to get that I had to turn my transom around so the nose wouldn't rise up so high. This also made me steer from the center of the boat, thus shifting my weight (269 lbs) forward. I didn't like it that way so I turned my transom back around so I could set in the rear and steer. That made more room for other things. I don't run across deep water with it cause I piggy back it in my Uncle J out to where I want to hunt, then get in the Fatboy.

Four Rivers is a good boat but it is not "better". I can't flip my fatboy if I tried, and I have tried many times. My Fatboy DP is very stable and certainly not built cheap. I highly recommend it for getting in places most can't go. I would not use it for long runs (more than 3 miles or so) or in heavy waves. It is not designed for that.

MoMarsh FB and 4 Rivers Refuge Runner are very comparable boats. Basically comes down to which one you can get a better deal on. Both of them have a hull that was designed for poling, who does that anymore??? lol When you put a long tail on them they will go shallow but speed is not a strong suit on either, matter a fact from mid range (6.5 hp) to full throttle has very little speed increase just plows more water making a wake you can swamp your buddy in the same boat. 4 Rivers has EBADS, SBADS, and Mini that are flat bottom hulls made to plane if speed is a necessary. .02
