 Grinding noise when spinning prop
I have a ProDrive with duals on it. The other day I was greasing the motors and noticed that one of the motors props spins smoothly by hand without making any sounds and the other one is a little tougher to spin and makes a slight grinding noise. I am not sure if this is a problem or not but seems like they should both spin the same. Any ideas on what I can check? The motors are 2013 ProDrive 36 long shafts. I do believe they are Gen II lower units.

Re: Grinding noise when spinning prop
Is it a rubbing noise or a grinding noise?
Slight rubbing noise from clutch = OK
Grinding noise from clutch (or anywhere else) = probably not OK....

Definitely a rubbing noise and not grinding. Does this sound and look normal to you?

Definitely the clutch disc rubbing. Not a lot you can do about it. That one is rubbing a good bit but it should calm down after you run it some more. How many hours on the rig? I would say the average lifespan on those clutches is about 200 hours. Seen some last only 50 though.

Re: Grinding noise when spinning prop
1st motor looks a lot dirtier than second motor. Grease build up and such.
It is possible you have some grease or mainly dirt in the grease that has gotten up in there and that is causing some extra noise/rubbing....

Re: Grinding noise when spinning prop
The clutch on the second motor failed about 6 months ago and was replaced with a new one. That is why it looks to be in better condition.
As for the grease, should I try to clean it out? I greased the motors about a week ago and that is when I noticed the noise. Not saying that's when it happened but that's when I noticed it. I only put grease in the zerks mentioned in the maintenance manual. Is it a good practice to grease or clean anything else while performing the maintenance. I believe the lower units are Gen II's.

Re: Grinding noise when spinning prop
Nah.. Just run it. Crank it now and bump the clutch a few times and see if it clears up.
