Post 1848 Stage 1
What should a double tapered 1848 PD boat run unloaded with a stage 1 36 in shallow water????

I got my stage 1 installed, but realized I had a BAD case gasket leak (losing a quart per hour), so I shut her down.

The short time I was able to run, I hit 31.8 with 2 batteries, 6 gal. gas, and me (210) ........ Averaged around 30 mph both shallow and deep water. Seemed a little on the slow side.

Low end torque and throttle response is really good. Just wondering what to expect when I get up and running again.

Sounds like solid speed to me.

What you will notice is a noticeable increase in loaded weight with the mods.

I would bet that Gators Square chined Skiff will run out a little better than the double tapered as well.

Not alot but I could easily see 1-2 mph.

UPDATE:

Well, it was killing me not having my boat running, so I took some brake cleaner and got all the oil cleaned out of the block, pan, bolts. Then used some compressed air and got it all dry. Red locktited the bolts, and low and behold they held for about an hour of running. And surprisingly, with the bolts tight, I don't appear to be losing any oil!!!!!!! The trick is just keeping those damn bolts tight!

Took the boy (120 lbs), me (210) and 2 batteries, PD bench, other boat gear, 5 gal gas and hit 30.7 @4470 rpms in deep water. This was with the .170 jet.

I think totally unloaded, I should now hit close to 33 mph in the skinny stuff. I definitely am liking the stage 1 kit to this point.......

I had 2 stock props reworked...1 is 12x13 and 1 is 12x14 but not true 14 more like 14.5 and also have a 12x13 cleaver that has lots of tip curl

Noone else has ever ran either of the ones I have except me so have no idea what they will do with a different boat but I saw the best speeds with the 12x13 tulip

My motor and boat are in Marshall right now but if ya wanna try any of them let me know and ill see when I can get over there

Where are you located?

He is over in Denton.

If yall run give me a call I got a 12x14 little tip and another Hopkins but don't know what it is......the used 12x14 is fast now but lost all its balls.....when I send it back I'm going 12x14.5 to 15 so I can get some bottom end on this rig.

The best all around prop I have ran is the stock prop whatever it is.

But far as your first question I think your speeds a good with the hull you have.

If you do come out to ride...don't worry about your bolts I have to stop and tighten them up every 30 minutes....LOL

You could even have it pitched to 14.25 if you wished. But what would be the difference compared 14 and 14.5.

I know you talked bout gettin a cam but if you don't get a cam don't bother with pitch over 14 with straight stage 1 motor.

The one prop I have that is little over 14 (don't know the true measurement) bogs the motor down on take off then won't spin over 3600-3700 rpms that was all deep water and have no idea what it'll do on another boat and motor.

I'm sure if you get a cam it'll be good.

Thanks for the responses, fellas....

I would like to try a few different props to see what works best.

You E. Texas boys have a good place to run west of ya that we could meet sometime? How far is Twok or Fork from ya'll???

Where's a good place to send off a worn out stock prop to have it re-worked?
