Beavertail 2000 Sneak Boat or kayak
Hi Everyone, New to the forum, but need some input from anyone that has put a long tail mud motor on a beavertail or otter 2000 sneak kayak. I put a 6.5 predator motor on it matched with a PPF Wood Duck long tail. I finally got to bite and move the kayak at around 6 or 7mph, it definitely wont plane out with just me in the back, but was wondering if anyone has tips or tricks for the height of the mud motor, weights in front, or anything they did to get a little more speed and help it plane out. does a steeper angle help? Did anyone have problems with the engine after 30minutes or so puttering to a stop? Thinking mine is new and just needing to be broken in more and simply from the running at full power pushing such a awkward boat had something to do with it

I'm no expert on the angles of entry, but it would seem a steeper entry angle would push the bow down a bit. Small hulls such as sneak boats, canoes, kyaks are not really designed to hop up on plane, just cut through the water with little effort. If you want to plane, you'll need more surface area or some type of square chine to break the surface tension and create lift. As far as the motor puttering down, I had the same problem with a Honda. Predator must have cloned ALL of the details.... The gas cap was not venting properly and created a vaccum in the tank. You can check for it by loosening the gas cap a bit when it sputters, or run with it half tight and see what happens.

Carry a spare tank cap, in case it wobbles off when you're trying to vent. Happened to me, had to cut apart my bailing jug and tape it over the tank to keep rainwater out of the tank.

My mud Motor would stop running after it had been running awhile and it wouldn't start back up until the engine was cooled off. Turned out to be a bad spark plug. Doesn't sound like the issue you are having but it may not hurt to check.
I have found with my little motor to try and keep most of the weight in the middle and up front. I also try to move as far forward as I can to help shift the weight too. It makes a big diffrence trying to plane out. Also your cavitation plate may be at the wrong angle with such a short transform. You may try adjusting it.

Where do you have it mounted? I have an aluminum transom that mounts on the rear "handle" of an otter. I didn't like loosing reverse with my outboard so I went back to the side mount, guessing that isn't a concern with a LT.
