Post 1436 jon boat w/ 9hp godevil long tail?
Hi guys, I'm fairly new here. I have found a great deal on a go devil 9hp longtail, and I am considering buying a 1436 jon to put it on. I'm not looking to go fast, or go through thick mud, or vegitation, just looking for a good shallow water set up. I hate having to tilt a small outboard way up in the shallows, when chasing down a cripple on my last boat with the 9.9 mercury.

Anybody have a set up like this? How does it work?

Some pics would be great if you have any.

Thanks a million.

I have a 1436 with a 8hp and I love mine. It does everything I need. Mine runs pretty good in open water and in shallow/muddy areas. Alot of times I hit stumps and stuff and get stuck but just a couple of moves with the motor gets me off. I'll upload pictures when I get off today.

i've got a buddy in FL with somehtin like that but a bigger motor, the smallest 2 cylinder LT that gd makes. it's a great little boat for what you want. got a blind on it and is pretty decent to hunt out of

Nephew had a set up like that (14x36 9 hp gd.). Will get on a slow step wih two men, not real fast , but that lil motor will push three men, boat blind and hunting equip across the mud with just a flim of water /plenty of torque. Good luck

Nice ! Thanks for the pics man I really appreciate you posting them for me. Looks like a work horse boat there for sure deffinately gets some use, not a trailer queen.

Do you stand whiloe you run it? and do you you have a grab handle/bar to hold on to?

Thanks.

Yeah, I stand up and its pretty stable even turning wide open. I had a 1432 which was a little to small because I felt like I was about to turn it over. No, not at the moment I am still working on the grab bar and stuff. Just didn't have the time to make one yet. This lt has a shorter shaft because its a crawfish edition.

Yep, point A to point B in the shallows is all I'm looking for too. I'm never in a rush when I'm out enjoying the marsh,
but I do need to run shallow, especially when chasin' down them cripples with the bullet proof vests!
Looks like I should be just fine with a 1436 jon and the 9hp gd lt. Thanks again boys. A big thanks for the pics
too fellas, feel free to keep em coming! It's makes my day to come home, and check out all your rigs on here.
As soon as I get a rig set up, I'll have pics up of mine too. Now I'm on a new quest for the jon boat!

Thanks, a million fellas. Steve.

I had a 1432 and my motor pushed it awesome but it was really unstable I think. I am a big guy and just a little movement would make me feel like I was going to turn over.

I run a 1448 with a 8hp gd. 10mph with my two little kids. add a adult and she goes down hill fast but it will still push through the shallow muck and rice just fine. im hopeing by next year to have enough money in the fund to swap out the briggs 8 for a honda 20.

Hey macakm1, do you find the 1436 that you run now, a lot more stable than the 1432 you had?
I was thinking of getting the new tracker 1542, just for the extra bit wider, for the stability,
but I don't want it to be to wide for the little motor to push. If you're happy with the stability of
the 1436, than I'll likely stay with one of those. Thanks, Steve.

The 1440 with the long tail, I was wondering where you got the handle / grab bar? Was it after market, if so where did you get it and could you post a picture of it? I am trying to have one designed for my rig. Thanks for all your help!
I have a 16 mod v alumacraft with 27hp Beavertail, having the transom cut this weekend to improve the performance. Ill post pics next weekend!

I have a 1436 with an 11hp godevil long tail and it pushes me about 15-16 mph.
It is stable enough for me to throw a castnet out of the front of it. I love it.

I had a 14x36 with a 9hp honda gd,without the clutch an it was kinda heavy on the back. So,i made a tank that went all the way across the boat form the bottom of the boat to the bottom of the saddle on the motor. That helped alot with stability too.

You guys are killing me with these speeds on small(er) motors! My buddy has a polar, allweld, 20" transom,1448 with a 25 mud buddy longtail on it and it's slow as molasses! ( i started a thread earlier inquiring about the boat/motor combo).

we GPS'd it on sunday and with 2 guys and gear, it was only pushing 8mph. just one guy, it was 12mph.

somethin' just ain't right!!
