Ok so I have anew backwater 35 swomp. First few times out prop was blowing out so I shimmed the cav plate and made sure bump stop is set right and it is now staying in the water at WOT. But the prop seems to be running right in the white water where the "V" of water comes off the back of my boat. I have the versa amount set up inboard to try and get the prop as far in side of that as possible and have no more room to move it. Would I be better off trying to outside mount the versa mount and try and get the prop behind that white water? Thinking it may get me better performance......

what r u seein for numbers, rpms at wot, speed? i run my versa mount out the back just for more room in the boat but i also seems to perform well there

also what boat r you runnin this on maybe somebody has similar setup

Have not checked speeds yet.... I'll report back asap. I have no tiny tach on it to see Rpms either... Damn I need one now lol. I'm running on a 1648 riveted Lowe.... Has a mod v bow but is true flat bottom in the sense that it has a 0 degree deadrise. Only weighs in at 270 lbs dry weight and not loaded... With batteries and gas and trolling motor probably just At 400 lbs.

TC13, I've had a 26.5 Kohler Swomp on my 1648 grizzly for a month now. I know your hull very well as two friends have them, running GD and MB LT's. From the get go I have the versa mount inboard style- that was rightfully suggested by Jake at BW. My grizzly is 400#, a little heavier than your hull but similar configuration, welded not riveted of course, I am bumping 21 mph. I did advance the throttle to 4200 rpm out of the water and have switched to a 9x6 prop (gaining about 1 mph nominally). Since the Backwater is weighted back for the most part, I'm not sure outboard style mounting of the versa would help- of course I have not tried that method. I am running the motor in the middle hole; I still need the balance point a tad more forward so I will move it to the back hole. I like the shorter turning radius. I am inside of the "white water" this way. moving it back I would be closer to the disturbed water and have less of an ability to adjust the balance point forward. I started off with the prop blowing out- that was due to the bump stop being too far down and I did not need any shims! I have an open floor plan and no rear bench seat so I have the room.
Get a Tiny Tach!! You ought to be hitting 24 mph or > with that big block! Let us know how it goes!

Thanks Glades! Ok ran today and gps has me at 23.... Touching 24 once with my wife and I in the boat.... She's tiny... Just me hit 26 mph. Not at all displeased with the numbers.... Was also able to run shallows down to about 4 inches in the river! Very pleased with that.... But I am still getting a little blow out if I don't keep a tad bit of pressure on th handle.

Could the angle of my versa mount be wrong causing an odd angle at the water?
Bump stop moved up pretty far has helped a bit but I cannot sit down and run it..... Which I'd like to do.... Maybe I'm optimistic.

If the cav plate is under water at full speed , it's too deep , trimmed perfectly regardless of dirty vs clean water , the cav plates extreme outer edge fins should be the only thing in the water at top speed, a lot of guys , even Arlon run it dialed in a little deeper to avoid any chance of blow out. At top speed , about 26, if I look back most of the plate is right above the surface , best speed achieved there. What prop you using 10x5 or 9x8 , 9x 8 is faster on my set up. But the 10x 5 is my hunt prop , that things nasty in the slop.

prop is the stock 35 hp prop ..... Not sure which it would be....

Cav plate is visible at WOT..... But like I said still wanting to blow out at times.... Which is frustrating me

The 35 comes with a 9/8 prop. How many shims did you use?

As of now I have both that came with it in and still blowing out at WOT..... Oh yeah I forgot to mention I'm on a 20 inch transom and have the 71 inch tail.... This is what jake suggested with the tall transom....

Time for some fine tuning . Load up ride somewhere with a beach , bring your tools. You'll get it .

TC13, any updates? Remember you can break the shims in half and triple or quad the thickness, as well as try both angled positions per the BW instructions. Good speed# otherwise!
