 Prepping for fasco #7
Bought a gallon of fastone for hook filling and a half gallon of steel flex super slick for the bottom of my boat. Can someone tell me what wheel I should buy for my grinder and exactly what the process is for prepping the bottom?

Yes, it is. The one that the salt or some battery acid or termites had eaten some holes in.

 Re: Prepping for fasco #7
would it just be easier to pull the sub floor and beat the floor flat with a 4x4 and a hammer? it was for me when I straightened out my floor prior to putting on steelflex.

 Re: Prepping for fasco #7
I've read some stuff about floating out the steel flex with a wet sponge to get a slicker finish. Anyone done this?

 Re: Prepping for fasco #7
Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info for putting this shit on. Woulda used GG but I needed the steel flex to keep building on top of the filler to make everything flat as possible

 Re: Prepping for fasco #7
ain't much to it. the people as fasco always were able to answer any questions I had.
the filler is some hard stuff. and it sticks well. one 1/2 gallon ain't gonna go far on that boat.
it took 2 gals to go about 8' on my skiff when I used it.
good luck.

 Re: Prepping for fasco #7
I used fas fair 26 to fill the hooks at my transom. Hit it with a wire brush down to bare metal. Wiped with acetone and let it evaporate. Then applied with a trowel, sanded after it had hardened, and put gator glide over it. Could tell a big difference in how the boat performed without those hooks acting like a parachute. I've only had it out once since I did the repair. Time will tell if it holds. Hit a few stumps and a sand bar and it's still hanging in there.

 Re: Prepping for fasco #7
I've had it on the bottom of my boat for somewhere around 10 years now. some of it is still there. the filler will outlast the steelflex.
looking back, I should of just sold the boat and got a hull with a 3/16'' bottom braced right. but hey, it's a a boat I beat up, so i'm gonna run it till the bottom wears out. lol

 Re: Prepping for fasco #7
Sorry, don't know about the fastone, but the folks at Fasco epoxies were very helpful, give them a call. True about those three hulls from one gallon: two 1648 riveted Lowes, and my 1648 grizzly all-welded. The Lowe hulls had to re-apply a couple of seasons ago- mine is still mostly intact, a few small scratches on the edges, but still slick. I think all those rivets on their hulls does not help. Thanks for the pic, I always wondered and worried about hooks but we don't have stumps, and I try and avoid the coral rock, sand, and gravel. Good luck and let us know how it goes! Are your running a shorty or a longtail on that hull?

 Re: Prepping for fasco #7
The flex is good stuff and now that I put some slick pads on my trailer bunks I must take care going down the ramp.

 Prepping for fasco #7
Spent a couple hours with a 60 grit flap disc this afternoon. There's some pitting on the bottom where the bunks were. I've read that I need to hit it with some white vinegar to stop it so I'll blow it off hit it with the vinegar then denatured alcohol and tack cloth after that. Should have my supplies from fasco Wednesday.

 Re: Prepping for fasco #7

 Re: Prepping for fasco #7
if it's level you can just pour the steelflex into the hooks and it will fill them then push the excess around to other places on the hull with the roller. they say the thicker you put it the faster it sets, so be mindfull of that.
good luck.

 Re: Prepping for fasco #7
The fas fair was like puddy, but that was pretty evident in its description.

 Re: Prepping for fasco #7
also if you want to poor it you can microwave it for a few seconds. you can always add more time to the microwave, start out with 8 to 10 seconds

 Re: Prepping for fasco #7
Here's what a gallon of fastone looks like. Hooks at the transom were deeper than i thought. Tried to fair it out as far as I could up the center line of the boat. Will be applying the super slick 2000 in 24 hrs.

 Prepping for fasco #7
Had one spot that didn't cure and had to chisel it out. Went ahead and sanded the top down gona wait a few more hours for full cure and put the super slick on.
Anyone know if the steel flex needs to be textured or go on smooth?
