Post Removing Foam
Debating on removing the foam from under the front deck. 2009 1650 gator trax, wondering if the foam provides any structural support to the deck, i'm hoping to mount a winch below the front deck and gain some extra storage area. Has anyone done this?

Thanks in advance

The foam does not provide any structural support. Lots of people have removed foam. Search for Excel/Go Devil foam removals.

Use the search feature, plenty of topics identical to this one. Foam is for flotation not support

Searched, lots of good info. Thanks for the tip, will remove the foam under the bow tomorrow. I did not return any results on removal of foam from the hunt deck....would be nice to know if anyone has gone that route and if they cut into the false transom or the top of the deck.

Thanks again.

Is your foam waterlogged?

Post Re: Removing Foam
Got all the foam out from under the bow, a small portion was water logged. Used a pressure washer and it made a hell of a mess, but was totally worth it. Removing the false transom this week and will blast all the foam out, the previous owner had a transducer on the stern and a small random hole below the waterline, i'm sure its water logged. Also yanking the foam out from under the floors which i KNOW are full of water. Thanks for the tips, will post updates.

Ducknut, do you have any photos of the crossmembers inside the huntdeck, my hull is an 09 GTrax.

Thanks in advance

This has turned into more of a rebuild than just a foam removal, here are some of the progress pictures. the floor and front deck were all hydroturfed, I spent about 4 hours with a wire wheel removing it so i could drill out the rivits to pull the floors. Lots of work ahead.

What is the fascination with removing foam? How much weight does waterlogged foam really add? 10 -15 lbs total maybe? Seems like a ShitTon of work for very little effect.

depending on the boat waterlogged foam can add up in weight quick. I pulled the floor up in mine and had around 60lbs of waterlogged foam so getting it out just adds to performance.

Post Re: Removing Foam
Here a few updated photos. I've spent a fair amount of time patching all of the random drill holes in the boat from the previous owner. The winch mount is complete and the hawse will have the final weld done today. The mock up rigging will be next, then floors and seat will be re-installed, off to media blasting then paint. If anyone knows of anyone that (professionally) applies gator glide in the N. Fla area, i would appreciate the referral. Will update pictures as more progress happens.

Is it really worth it is what I struggle with. It looks to be a royal pain to remove the welded floor. To save what? 80lbs? Basically a trolling motor battery?

What's your speed with just you and a gas tank in the boat?

Its always wet by the drain plug, its an 07 Excel made by Rivertrail in Arkansas. One of the last before the tornado. Ive stepped on the floor and heard it squish. Its def got water in it, just not sure how much.
