Post 10" prop on small block
Anyone ever try a 10" diameter on a small block? If so, what was your experience? I am thinking I can get better push in the mud with a 10" prop.

I have a 24 honda with tuned exhaust, jetted and throttle advanced to 4200 out of water.

Thank in advance for any help fellas.

Surface drive or longtail? Bryce is talking about on an sd, and huck is talking about a modded longtail. Two different prop concepts work on each.

Yeah, im used to people posting in any section they feel fit

OP, your motor will need some nuts to turn a 10" prop.

Huck, what kind of rpms are you running with the 9x8 and 10x5 (with the modded 23 right?)? Other than tweaking the throttle, I've never done any mods on my LT's. Both my 9x7 and 9x6 are almost the same with my 26.5 BW. I figure I will lose a lot of rpms if I try a 9x8.

Last I checked, he's running all the RPM.... Lol. That skiff of his will hang with my rig thru the woods. It's impressive.

[quote="BERNIE255"]Tuned exhaust?

30" primaries into a y then single muffler. I have pics if you would like to see what I am talking about.
Jetted carb to match exhaust, and picked up a substantial amount of power compared to boring stock motor.

Huck,

What all is involved in your stage 2? What kind of speeds were you getting from you 10x5 vs 9" prop?

I mean the 10x 5 was still running 24 mph . The 9x8 averages 26 or so. It's heads by setx performance , now nick and Cody . 34mm round slide , rejetted a little on the rich side to run that fast. Cam is a Cody cam ,setx . Exhaust is a bps crossover , been cut and reworked , welded hopefully to last longer . This motor is very stout . And the power to weight ratio to my rig is perfect . You can cruise with the big blocks and drive like a hot rod in the mess.

Thanks for the info Huck. How well do you think a stock 23/24 would turn a 10x5?
I have been looking at ways to get more thrust in the Kentucky silt/clay mix down here. I can turn 9x6 prop no problem at all, but was uncertain about how much harder the 10" blades would be to turn.
Maybe a good reason/excuse to upgrade the carb.

I'd try to just step up a little pitch before I tried more diameter, especially since the engine is stock still. If you're wanting more thrust thru the junk, try adding more cup to your existing prop.

Not very well , too much prop for a stock motor . For example the 9x8 and 10x5 are rated for the 37 efi block. I probably have a 9x 7 you can try for free. Pm me. One pitch change is a couple hundred rpms different for me.

Thanks for the offer on the 9x7. Currently I have my outboard on my rig, but I usually put my long tail back on in September. I am just trying to be proactive and get thing sorted out before the season gets here. I might just send my prop to Hopkins and get it cupped and pitched.
