Okay, another thread asking opinions. Sorry for redundancy, and I appreciate the help.

I've nixed the center console idea, and now I'm on to a more traditional duck boat.

I'll be using an outboard...50hp Yamaha.

Both have features I like. The Havoc's pod seating is nice. The WarEagle has a 12 degree V vs the 8 degree v in the Havoc...which I think might make for a dryer ride in choppy water.

It seems like the mud step on the Havoc might be nice by pushing the motor back a bit and creating more space inside the boat. Is that accurate? Or should I just consider the 1756 DB...without mud step?

Thoughts?
What else should I consider?

There are multiple factors that will affect how wet the ride is. Deadrise is only one part of that. Crimp, chines, side angle, side height, ride attitude are some others. Smoother, yes. Drier, maybe, maybe not.
With an outboard tiller, I personally would want a traditional transom. Just me, and others might not care, or may like the mud step. War Eagles have been around longer, but havocs have the inverted runners, and aren't junk. Figure out the features most important to YOU, and roll with it.

With the big tiller on the newer yamaha the step transom will be fine. If you have the older tiller get the db. The havoc is a very dry ride because of their side design.

Having had an MST1750 (and I will have another soon) I really like the mud step. No more dog ladders or crap like that when in deeper water. Also makes it super easy getting in and out when making adjustments to decoys or blind. I personally will never go back to a boat without a step or hunt deck. Keep in mind....step is considered part of the measurement for length of boat. It does push motor back, but doesn't necessarily give you more room. IMO a 1750 hunts 2 people and a dog comfortably. 3 gets to be tight, but it works. Boat plains well and never really seemed to terribly load sensitive. And it is a very dry ride. Even when loaded heavy and riding low.

That was a question I had...the 17MST has to be longer than the 17DB, right? If not, does the 17MST have the useable space of a 15.5' or 16' boat?

Or is the total length of the 17MST longer than the 17DB due to the step?

Not longer. The step is part of the 17ft. I consider the step a nice feature.......but not usable space so to speak. The DB will have more open floor space inside.

Go to Havoc's website. I thought they had short video's describing the different boat designs. That may be of some help.

So, I spoke to Havoc yesterday and the guy said he thought the 1756DBST was too big and lacked performance...referred to it as a meat wagon??? Holy shit, with a 50hp motor, I would think it will fly. I guess those guys like running REALLY fast. I would assume that two guys in a 1756 with decoys and gear would still be able to go low to mid 30s...is that right?

The guy at War Eagle I spoke with loves the 1754 with a 50 tiller and takes it on the Mississippi. That tells me it has plenty of speed.

I would think withthe right prop you could probably put enough stuff in the boat to almost sink it and would still be able to run 30
