 side height
new to mmt. im sure its been talked about just not sure how to search things very efficiently. im having a gatortail 1748 with huntdeck built right now with 18" sides. im wondering if ill be okay with the 18" sides, not much experience with mud boats. also wondering if anyone with 18" sides could post pics of their boat in the water just to give me an idea of what to expect. thanks in advance.

 Re: side height
I Cross alot of open water that gets pretty rough. I opted for 24 inch sides on my custom. A buddy of mine has 18 inch sides. With 3 big guys and a hunt load he is glad he has a big bilge pump when the water is rough.

 Re: side height
Seems a bit short for my hunting situations. I've also got to cross big water at times and my 21" sides seem a bit short and should have opted for the 24" myself. With that being said, if you hunt backwater and rivers only, you should be fine. BUT anything larger with waves you could be in trouble.

 Re: side height
I've got 15" sides and cross open water on ocassion. You just have to use your head, load the boat correctly, pay attention to conditions.
I'm not saying everyone should do it, or that it's ideal, but it is doable. The short sides are really nice when fishing, the wind doesn't blow you around near as bad and it's easy to get people and equipment in/out of the boat without a hunt deck.

 Re: side height
I have a 21" sided prodrive that ive taken in some pretty nasty water and never felt bad about it. It is a tank, but its honestly too big for where I need to go.

 Re: side height
I have 18" and cross big water occasionally cross big water and wish I had 21". Heck for simple tight turns at slow speed the extra 3" would come in handy.

 Re: side height
Mine has 24" sides now, old one had 21" sides. I will never go shorter than 24" from now on, but I also play on big water where 3' waves are not uncommon.

 Re: side height
I've had 18" and 21". I would rather have 21" over 18" any day.
My new one has 24" sides just because it's a better cut on a 4' sheet.

 Re: side height
shorter side boats are easier to hide from fowl.

 Re: side height
I've had 15, 16, 18, and 21" + sides. I prefer 18".

 Re: side height
My current boat has 24" sides. I'd never get shorter sides. 24" is short enough in 3 footers when the boat is covered in ice.
The next boat will have 28" side. That should be just right for me. Any higher and it would be too difficult to get in and out with waders on.
