 Cajun Navy - Scam Alert
Seeing lots of things about folks trying to profit off of the Cajun Navy deal. Seems one of the chicks that is running things was caught up in some fundraising fraud for another disaster.
The Cajun Navy was a term that was given to a bunch of folks who set out to New Orleans during Katrina. It was no organized group, just folks with boats wanting to help in any way they can. Seems there's folks trying to capitalize on it now and that's a far cry from what it started out to be.
I agree that it would be great to have something that would be organized so the group is taken more seriously by law enforcement and other emergency agencies. I've heard of training ideas and that wouldn't be a bad idea as its always good to know what you're doing so you don't become the one needing rescue. But it is what it is, just folks wanting to help and that's the true spirit of it, not getting on tv, or posting videos or yourself to get in the spotlight. Just get in the boat and help. That's what it's all about.

Re: Cajun Navy - Scam Alert
i had a run in with a guy on Monday who was acting as if he was the leader of the "Cajun Navy", named Damion. This dude had a Facebook page and pretended he had all sorts of connections and contacts with the local authorities in organizing evacuation's. This guy was nothing but a liar and a complete joke. All he did was waste valuable time and energy for about a hundred volunteers or more. The thing that irritated me the most was this guy had a Los Angeles California phone number and didn't even own a boat.

Re: Cajun Navy - Scam Alert
Yea that was the first guy I saw "representing" the group. He was on Facebook live trying to get a group shot and you can hear someone in the back hollering lets go (as in launch and roll out) and he told the guy to settle down. Lol
All about look at me. None of this is about that, it's about helping.

Re: Cajun Navy - Scam Alert
My buddy and others posted the article about Sydney on the Cajun navy FB page. They were all mysteriously blocked from the group. Everyone beware if they start trying to organize donations. Only donate through reputable sources.

I remember when we went to new Orleans for katrina you could stand in the bed of your truck and look in front and behind the truck and see nothing but 2 lanes of boats waiting to put in to go help.

If he's publicizing his whereabouts so much, someone should go call his ass out on camera and post that shit. Fight fire with fire.

Re: Cajun Navy - Scam Alert
I met the Damian callias guys he a complete fraud . He brags about being on good morning America yet when the boats weren't allowed to go out there and we told him me and Gaaron Blanchard ( coast guard in lake Charles ) can gain access. He wouldn't tell us where to go and where the people are at because his boats couldn't go. Why not save a few over none ?

Re: Cajun Navy - Scam Alert
Listening to a talk show on a BR station, yesterday. The were interviewing some state rep...a woman...and she warned listeners that there were some Go Fund Me accounts set up under the guise of "Cajun Navy." She specifically said, those are scams.

Re: Cajun Navy - Scam Alert
Glad that you all posted the imposters and the scammers
i have been working with the dispatchers, boat captains of the group and went out there myself in my boat. Those people working are working hard. Now they are working to bring goods to where they need to be. Especially now, hay to cattle and horses.
It looks like the scammers have been removed. I have not been asked about any donations or shirt sales. But They did get rid of a woman and man out of that group and I have not seen anything that smells of scam since.
Not sure about this Rob Gaudet dude but I know know he has been working many hours in dispatch to get people to boats and verify any request by calling the subjects. They have been using some apps that have been helpful for doing rescue like a two way radio app and a group gps to track all boats going out. I have helped with guys going out at night for food and water drops. Coordinating with my own parish EOC to help with equipment and personnel they had. When I used my boat, it was before all this and being tied in with people on those apps would have been helpful and saved time.
No place for scamming and trying to make money. This woman they had on that site was trying to get people to take more video for marketing purposes. I understand raising awareness, but it seemed slimy the way she wanted to do it. When I saw it after the fact. Glad she was exposed. They were talking about having official shirts for sale and all, and there were people still being rescued. Smelled bad guys and was bad.
Why do people have to smell a profit while the tragedy is still occurring is beyond me.

Re: Cajun Navy - Scam Alert
But that's what the group of scam artist do for a living.... One of them even slipped and messaged an idividual and admitted that that's what they do for a living.... They travel and organize assistance for disasters.... That they can't do it for free so they set up donations and take percentage so they can make a living.... The sad part is, it's legal.... They do it under a business name
