I have 18". I recommend if you don't already know what you want, go with 21" or taller.

Post Re: New boat purchase ?
I've had an 18" side boat before it was great hunting, getting in/out, dog in, pulling traps into the boat, rolling gators in etc. But it was a wet ride in open water if the wind kicked up. I'm just wondering if 3" will make that big a difference in the dry department, guess that goes both ways on getting in out/ working out of the boat etc. I wouldn't go out in rough enough water where it would be dangerous for either.

Question there is a reason they make both WHY? I can't get a straight answer out of the dealer or manufacture either.

Thats normally related to the bottom width and what's left over on a sheet of aluminum that creates the least amount of waste.

For my uses, there has been precisely one time since I've owned my boat I wanted taller sides than what I have currently (less than 18") and I was in rougher water than I had any business being in to begin with. The short sides are an all around plus for me in every practical way.

I have 24 inch sides (have had much shorter in the past). I like the taller sides, but I run rough deep water alot also. I stay pretty dry in rough water.
