Post Building a Mud Motor - Help!
Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and could use some help. I have a Gheenoe 15' 4" and am looking to build a long tail mud motor for it so I can go duck hunting. I want to go somewhat fast (at least 15 mph with some gear), but I also want to keep building costs as low as possible and was thinking a 13HP(420cc) would do just fine. I just want to know if someone can recommend me a good mud motor kit or good instructions to building one. Also one of my friends recommended me I buy my motor from Harbor Freight (). Please let me know if anyone has any advice or tips on what I should do, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks Everyone!

Check out Backwater Inc.'s longtails. They will sell just a frame, and have great customer support. Really nice unit, and there isn't really anything better in the long tail world.

If that doesn't meet your budget, check out Swamp Runner long tails. A lot of people here will talk crap on them, but you also notice most of those people have 0 experience with them. Register on their webforum on the Swamp Runner website and look around. The owner (John Dobbs) also provides great customer service.

Bsolis, are you in Florida? If so, I know where a like new longtail with a briggs 23 is sitting on the floor that you could probably have for very cheap. Its not mine but I can put you in touch with the owner. He bought a surface drive and hasn't touched it since.
