Post Motor size for 14x36 Boat blind project?? HELP EXPERTS.
I'm going to be purchasing a used boat and trailer combo for a great price. The boat is a welded 14x36 flat bottom. I am looking at a 16hp longtail or a 22hp long tail. Id rather get the 16hp to save some money if possible. I weigh about 160 and id have another guy with me who weighs about the same. Would the 16hp be enough for that boat with 2 guys in it? Not worried a bout going super fast but dont wanna go super slow either lol. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

I have a 14x36 that I added pods to (amazing DIFFERENCE) W A 23.5 GD longtail. I put the 23.5 Kohler on it new last year. It runs 21.5 mph by myself and 3 doz decoys. Runs 18-19 all day long w 2 guys and all gear.
I would NOT get anything less. You won't be hapy.
I also added Steelflex superslick on it and it make a world of difference when going thru the thick stuff. (down here in FLa, that is mostly thick sawgrass)
I would again not ever have a mud boat w/o some sort of slick bottom stuff!

I spent a lot of time sorting out the weight distribution so ping me if u want to hear it.
I have some pics too of the removable grab bar I added and I can send u that too.

I threw a single pod across the back of my 1436 and used a long tail. It wasn't a hunt deck because the motor sat on the original transom. it made a HUGE difference in performance and load carrying abilities.

ran 19mph just me with a stage 1 420cc kit longtail. 15mph with 2 guys (490lbs) 2 dozen goose decoys, beavertail flip blind and spare 2.5gal gas tank.

That 18 hp surface drive Copperhead in the video is going to perform alot differently than the longtails you mentioned. Before the size of the motor, you ought to pick whether you want a longtail or a surface drive. Longtails are simpler, more reliable, cheaper and perform better in some situations like stumps. But the performance of surface drives is going to be better in most other aspects. An 18 surface drive would be good for a 1436. Copperhead also sells a 13 hp Vanguard that would also work fine and is a little cheaper. The 13hp isn't listed on Copperhead's website, but you can see it on their Facebook page.

Ok, well i will most deff be going with the Long tail for the reasons you just mentioned. Again I'm not looking to go fast. I just wanna get me and my buddy to the hunting spot and back. if and 18hp will go 15mph with 2 people in it, id be fine with that. Anyone have speeds of a rig like this?

Not sure if anyone cares but i have decided to go with the Harbor Freight 22hp engine, for the simple fact of not having to upgrade down the road. I will also be purchasing the Swamp Runner Kit. It is suppose to be better quality than the Mud Skipper. I will be welding brackets onto the kit to make it more durable. Thanks for the help guys, very much appreciated.
