 G3 1548 VBW Flat Bottom
I am interested in purchasing a new G3 1548 VBW Flat Bottom. I want to put a swamp runner longtail on it. Anyone have any experience with this type of boat? I will be running it on a small sandy river in Nebraska. Thanks Brent

If you're gunna buy a new boat, why not buy a good longtail if a longtail is what you are wanting?
Get you a good longtail from a reputable company and enjoy.
Also, that boat is probably heavier than a alweld flat bottom boat

 G3 1548 VBW Flat Bottom
Should be a solid little rig! Longtails will "run" on just about anything. The cross wise braces will cause the bottom to hook when come in contact with the bottom, especially since I'm sure that hull is built from thinner sheet metal. People have better success with longer skinnier hulls with the long tails, but as far as construction goes I'm sure you'd be more than happy with that boat... and it would be great with an outboard if you're ever not running shallow.

In response to the post before me I agree... talk to backwater they'll fix you up with a great motor, and a good boat that meets your needs

brycecheramie- I live in Nebraska I don't really have a bunch of options. I wanted a thicker hull and welded boat. My options are limited to BPS, Cabelas riveted johns. There is a swamp runner dealer in my area and that's what most people are running here. I like the open middle and platform front on the G3.

As for the head to head comparison, I have no experience. However, using a boat that a motor company endorses, or offers, is usually a safe bet. I would think that they would offer a boat that yields the best performance.

Im talking about using a godevil or backwater longtail.
you may be satisfied with the cheap swamprunner longtail. But I'd get a longtail from the other 2 I posted.

Re: G3 1548 VBW Flat Bottom
I ran a 1448 G3 with a 25 hp Mud Buddy longtail. It worked, but it certainly wouldn't be my first choice again. Your choices aren't as limited as you might think. It's worth a drive to get a boat that has a hull designed for mud motors. You're going to be living with your choice for years, so don't choose a boat just because it is nearby. There are a lot of good boat builders, but for example, Phowler is in Iowa and that is close to you. Louisiana isn't impossibly far either. When I consider what I had to do to get a good boat in California, Nebraska to Louisiana is a cake walk. The truth is you have a bunch of options. Get the right boat and you won't regret it later.

Re: G3 1548 VBW Flat Bottom
I'm in Nebraska and run the same kinds of shallow sandy rivers often so I know what you're asking... One of my hunting partners has the 1660 G3 swamp runner longtail set up to get to our blinds and its OK, but doesn't compare to other boat set ups. I've had many "mud" boats and I wish someone would have talked me out of "settling" on a boat. You have lots of options if you keep you eyes and mind open. If you're just running a half mile to your blind with 3 guys then the longtail setup and boat you're looking at is fine. If you're going to do anything else with it, you'll be disapointed, although the job will get done. Sure, you can haul some stuff in your subaru, but you can do it a lot better in a pickup.

I ran a 23gdlt on a 1542 Quachita for years. It was good solo rig with dog and gear, but a little small once a second person was thrown in.
