Post Best Boat for 27 HP Prodrive
Hey Guys, I will be purchasing a 27 HP from a friend who is upgrading to a 36 in the next couple of months I am trying to figure out what is the best set up in your opinion and yes, I expect several opinions. What length X width will help get the best performance out of the motor which is stock. Also I would be interested in seeing if anyone has a price on Brother Breax's Boats just a generic number will work, I understand he does great work and really like his boats, but don't want to bother him until I am serious. Thanks guys and any feedback is appreciated.

Currently on a 16X48 all weld, but I want to get a hull more suited for its application. He is selling the boat and doing the same for his 36HP he is buying.

I would say 17 or 16x48. Could go 16x52 or 54 but wouldnt go longer with that width (added weight). Gotta look at loads carried? and type of use? hunting, playing, speed or just want to get to the duck hole or deer stand, running mud, trees, open water? All depend's on what ya gonna do wit it...

x2, and make sure its a smooth bottom hull. We have one on a 1648 pd. It runs great with two people and a load or 3 people, no load. Too much more than that it bogs down quite a bit. The 1748 will handle the load a lil better, and be just a tad slower empty if at all.

The longer the better. Make sure and go with a 16 to 17 foot hull. I had my 27 on a 15 foot hull and it looked like it was always riding a wheely. Those things are heavy and all the weight is outside the boat.

a 20'x44'' skiff runs well with a 27kholer. ran one for several years. couple thousand hrs. it will run around 25 or so empty and will step with 4 men.
save sum money and find a used skiff.

16x48'' boats are for people who have never run 20' boats.

The 16 footer fits in the garage.

I do wish I had gone at least 18ft. But I also wish I went wit tha bigger motor. Overall, I'm happy with it. It gets the job done. I imagine the 20 footer would carry a load nicely. I had no idea they would run that fast. My 1648 just barely runs 25, and thats empty. Runs an honest 22 with 2, and 19-20 with 3.

Long boats are good.... IF,,, you are always running with a load.. when running a long boat light, it wants to ride front down...
I ran a 36PD on a 19'6", and it ran excellent with a Load.. but like chit with just me..
