So pd people say pds can go way more places until they get called out, then they say "its not a pissing match" or "it suits my needs"?? Sounds like a lot of people are just trying to justify buying the wrong motor!

Post Re: PD lower unit issue in mud!!
At the Fausse Point ride in march I stopped all over sandy cove both days (even by the bank where hunter and justin were havin trouble) and everywhere else people were riding and I never had a problem in the mud. But with that being said I only have my boat in the mud like yall have maybe 1 time a year and thats if I come to the mud rides. Other than that all I run is THICK vegetation and stumps, and I have run the gator-tail, pro-drive, and mud buddy in the same conditions and the pro-drive works best for me because of the weighted back design and its not belt driven. Ive broken 2 belts in the gatortail and 3 belts in the mudbuddy and sheared the bolts off that hold on the lower unit of the pro drive twice. We run ALOT of stumps. We have been stranded all 5 times in the belt drives but always came in under our own power in the pro-drive because even though the bolts are sheared you can still tighten the tension knob and it will keep the lower unit in place and limp back to the ramp. All the problems in the pro drive came from the old style lower unit that was only held in by 4 bolts unlike the new ones that have 6 and I havent had any problems out of the new style.

If I did just run the mud then the gator-tail would probably be a better choice because of the instant reverse and the longer reach of the outdrive.

yall all arguing about whats better. PD or GT. lemme tell ya ive seen them all run and they all are good. i like pro-drive but thats just my oppinion, they all have thier pros and cons. i just like the FPR. ya get stuck in forward, swing the lower unit around and back out.

and with the hard stuff, ive found that trimming down a good bit then lift the motor and drop it to let it dig then trim up and find the sweet spot works the best. like all the guys said "tiller time" im still workin on ma time but im gettin better. expierience is the key padna

I think I have seen it all, GT and PD fighting it out like the old MB and everyone else debates. It is true that we (Yank's) don't have quite as much mud as down south but we do have conditons that are MM hell. When it comes down to which reverse is better, you want a allterrain reverse that will get you out of a mess- pick FPR, you want a reverse that you can use because you can't control your boat at the launch, easy- GTR......

Do y'all notice something in all of Bayouboy's pictures?

He's sitting down the whole time. That's a big reason why I bought my PD. The lazy man's mudmotor.

Post Re: PD lower unit issue in mud!!
Reason for my choice was launching the boat in a bayou with strong tidal currents, going in and out of a gated canal with strong tidal currents. I fought that gate for a long time and I will never go without instant its what I need for my situation.

From mid December until April we run hundreds of yards of mud to get to areas holding water and birds or just going from point A to point B. If and when you get off step and stop you just sueeze the lever and break suction and wash out a hole to take off in.

Instant is sure convient at the back down but I use it in the field far more often than at the launch. By the way if it was not so important to ya'll why are so many of you spending all that money on that Auto FPR ?

Not knocking anyones chit but all this crap over and over whats the point? To prove that fpr is the best reverse well its the strongest but not the best for me if that mofo cannot get me on step off a mud flat than it is not doing ME a bit of good.

No one has mentioned it, but FPR works pretty well to get a boat out of what was described at the beginning of this thread. FPR picks up the back end of your boat and makes it easier to get underway in such stuff. I once ran about 500 yards in just a few inches of water over hard clay mud. Couldn't get going forward, so out of desperation we slapped it into FPR and made it to a great spot and day's hunt.

And screw the guy who turned this useful thread into a schoolyard pissing contest of GT vs. PD. You have contributed nothng useful to this thread. I wish I had a buck for every good thread that has gone south on MMT because of such useless drivel.

no one cares!!!!! It is a personal choice and a personal purchase. It is my money as the customer to spend in anyway I want. PD is a personal choice for me, just like buying a ford truck. One side likes one thing and the other likes thier thing. No one is ever going to win this battle so SHUT THE F_CK UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What I wanna know is where can I get one of dem stumpy props??? I have to agree about the PD props not grabbin hold sometimes and relying too much on tip curl. On the other hand, I'll never give up my FPR and contrary to what some people say on here, it has gotten me unstuck on several occasions where nothing else short of winching would have.
