I keep blowing my exhaust gaskets out on my 35hp vanguard. I have a x-over exhaust on. Does any know what the problem could be?

Yeah I just changed them again today and put two, I'll see how that works. My exhaust cracked by the flange and when it was welded it was a tad off and had a little slack between the flange gasket and head..could've been the problem

2801 is the size you want. These work well.

Just installed brand new second hand EVT on my PD, and I can feel air leaking at the flanges when I crank it up. I doubled up the gasket on one side, because I noticed the gasket still had a little play in it when tight. Well the gasket got tight, but still air leaking through both flanges.

Moral of the story: it looks like I need to order the gaskets mentioned above...

I think I might try to loosen all the bolts on the exhaust and support bracket, then tighten the exhaust flanges first then support bracket second. Maybe the support bracket needs to give a little in order for the flanges to fit tight. I'll check the straightness of the flanges as well

The flanges on my EVT had to b turned a certain way to bolt up the exhaust.

The one I have has the slip flanges. I had to adjust them a little for it to bolt on...

Yea you couldn't tell in the pic from that angle. Although I talked to BoatDr and he thinks it may just be the air from the fan blowing down near the exhaust flanges. I need to go run it a while to look for anything black coming from the flanges to determine if there's a leak or not.

Just mix up some real soapy water and spray on while motor is idling. That will tell you right away.

Found this old thread. The link above to the 2801 gaskets is no longer working. Anybody know where these gaskets could be found? Thanks!

Pm or call Boatdr. He'll probably have exactly what you need, or can tell you where to get them. Cb5331 probably knows too and will likely chime in here. If not him, someone will.

It's Volkswagen exhaust gasket, I can't find a link for any of the thick compression style now.

If you use the compression type with a stock exhaust, make sure to put a washer or some type of spacer between the stock bracket and the engine block. The thicker gaskets push the exhaust down a little further. I didn't add the washer last time and I put strain on the exhaust flanges causing one to crack

I have had good luck with the Red High Temp RVT. It got me out of a jam once and haven't been back to regular gaskets yet.

I've always used stock and never had trouble. Cb why are there 4 per pack, if they collapse, should use one per side. Am I wrong?

If I'm not mistaken these are for a VW but fit the briggs as well. The VW has four header pipes
