Post Prop Spinning in the mud
I have a 27hp Kohler GDLT and I recently changed the muffler and the throttle cable. Now when I get into shallow water my prop just spins in the mud. It will catch for a second then let go, then catch and let go. The prop and the shaft was changed by Go-Devil about 2 or 3 years ago and this problem just started and I have no idea why. Any suggestions??

The prop is pretty much brand new. It may have 50 hours on it and that's pushing it. It makes about a dozen hunts a year, all soft marsh mud, no stumps or anything hard

That soft mud has sand in it and I'm 100% sure that's your problem. There is no cup left to bite. Its like running a knife through butter.

That's the only thing I can see too but, that prop still looks brand new. It's been since I put that new throttle cable and muffler on that its been acting up. My brother has a 35 Mud Buddy that he guides with, has 3 years of heavy heavy wear and is still going strong. This prop came from go-devil brand new and they put it on. I just can't see a prop wearing that fast but I don't know

Looks like the leading edge has some wear.

Can see where it has some wear, but another possibility is that you're now getting full travel on the throttle cable, giving you more power, resulting in you over revving in the mud & blowing out. Try to keep the rpm a lil lower when taking off, then hammer on it once you're moving good.

Even when I'm running in the mud wide open u can feel it not grabbing. Coming from deep water into the shallows u can tell the difference. It will push u but not like it should be. I'm going to call Hanks tomorrow and see if they'll look at it for me. I'm in hammond and really don't want to go to BR for go-devil

Now I'm back to prop slippage from wear

that prop looks to have a lot of the cup still intact to me. However, I know that they changed their props in the years since I have run a LT, and when the cup wears it makes a much more drastic difference in the performance since they essentially dropped the pitch 1" on all of their motors due to the heavy cup.

well if the mudd is just solid and has little water and isn't real mushy your prop will actually dig a hole and not have anything to grab except for the occasinal cave in. If its dry mud it ain't happening, throttle cable and motor have nothing to do with it, Pick shaft up and keep sticking it in new mud till you get it all soft around the prop and back of the boat

I have a 16 GDLT and recently got into some mud that felt the same way. I couldn't get the prop to bite and it felt like a clutch slipping type of feeling. It would catch and start to run good, but then it would find a bad spot again and stop until it caught again. I was able to adjust the depth of the prop a little and it seemed to help. I think it is just the type of mud you are in. After my experience I ran in more familiar areas through mud and it ran fine. I am chalking it up to bad/unfriendly mud.

Did I misunderstand? I thought he was running the same place, but lost performance after having a couple parts changed.

Did you get a lefthand or righthand threaded exhaust?

Running in the same place. Scarsdale, La.
I have no idea about the exhaust. It comes straight out the back o the muffler.

dig it down deeper until you find a more consolidated mud. The marsh in scarsdale has that nasty mud thats a pain in the ass to run through.

Yeah, I was thinking mine wasn't a prop issue because I am still running normal in all other areas. Just one new spot where it started acting funny. I'll try digging deeper next time and see what happens. Thanks

So, it WAS a different spot. That's info needed & asked for to answer the question.

i think you were used to your old prop and with this new one, you are blowing it out.
