I know someone on here has got just headwork and exhaust done... Eventually I want to add mikuni but what speeds, load should I expect to see out of it without the carb? I was getting 26 consistent bump 27 with light load and 2 person load on a 1746 gtb...

28 bumping 29 and more bottom end. Don't expect a lot of speed gain, you're not doing anything to compliment the head work. I.E. Carb/cam

couldnt run a stock carb ever again after getting the mikuni. Honestly, id rather get a carb first before headwork. You just cant run these motors correctly with the governor linkage systems. Honestly dont know why MM manufactures even let a motor out of the shop with the crap briggs carbs. Add the carb into the costs of a new motor.... That carb is meant to be ran at a constant 3600 rpms. Not between 800-4300

Any break in issues or things to keep in mind once I put my heads back on motor? Also, any cheap tricks or adjustments to get a little more hp besides the carb/cam? Will I create any issues with this headwork done and not changing coils or rev limiter for any reason? I've caught the mod my motor itch and can't stop it....

How will I know if I have 4350 coils or 4700? From what I've seen, they switched midstream in 2012, which is when my motor was manufactured but classified as 2013 when sold...

Rev outta water and see what it hits. 4350 or 4700. That's what coils you got.

Marsh jb, what are your specs on your setup and speeds? if you are running heads and exhaust with stock carb, I'd like a comparison with the same mods unless you have other work done...

So I just got her all back together, and back off the water to give the review of the headwork done... All I can say is that it took some time to get it all pieced back together, short of a valve gasket, it's back together, going to get that tomorrow. Awesome work LA prop, you da man ha. By myself 2 batteries tank of gas trolling motor and yeti rolled 30 consistent, me and a buddy stayed 29 the whole time, unfortunately tach went out but putting new one on tomorrow as well. But the get up and go is a drastic change as well. thank you and if anyone needs headwork LA prop is the guy... Great guy to deal with... Noticed my crank case gasket might have a small leak but going to tighten bolts up and hopefully it will hold up for a little while longer.

Post Re: Headwork
I am adjusting the idle rpm to sit around 1100 I think is a sweet spot, but while adjusting the idle screw in the front I realized it was all the way backed out and not coming down any more. My rpm at that time was around 1800 on idle. I then adjusted the screw with spring on the backside of the carb to allow the springs to retract more for the front idle screw in the front of the motor. I am unsure if this is the proper way to make your idle arm hit the front screw because it was sticking, just making sure that's what that back screw with the spring is for on the back of the carb. It's all got tons of slack in it. can't wait to throw it away for the mikuni

Sonerhing is hanging up or sticking. Is your spring allowing the arm to return all the way to idle?
