If your staying in the clear water a center console is nice. If your gonna be grinding in the mud and veg. stay with the tiller.

With a tiller you can work ur MM to its fullest potential. The same cannot be said about a center console, plain and simple.

I know I would like to try the CC MM set-up !!!! Thay is alot of advanatages from operatin' both. I had a regular outboard rig with a CC
and I liked it alot. I truely thank ifin' a person is just gonna hunt and fish
from a boat .... you would enjoy the CC when you just goin' on a ride ...

Alot of fellers ain't had the luxary of ownin' nothin' but a tiller and don't really know what thays missin' !!!!! :D I've ran 'em all ..... front stick, side console, center console, tiller, and 'course one of mines favorite .... MillerTiller !!!!!

Center Console is hard to beat on any outboard.

A MM though seems you can really get after the motor with a tiller. Not so much with a steering wheel.

You can still go everywhere a tiller can but when you get stuck or bogged down wrestling with the motor throwing it back and forth becomes more violent and effective (I believe) with a tiller not saying you won't get out with a CC just a lot faster than with tiller at least in the situations and the areas I run around Houston area.

Post Re: Tiller vs Center console?
Well after runnin both I'm glad I made da switch from tiller to remote steerin.
I was very skeptical of how da performance would be wit da console. But after runnin it for a while this is what I have found out.
~In thick vegetation they are equall.
~In runnin tight timber areas where you need to make many turns real fast the tiller is much better (you can turn da motor quicker and you don't have to constantly worry about about rippin off your hydrolic steerin lines).
~In da drinkin catagory da console wins hands down I can let go of da steerin wheel hold a beer in one hand and a cigarette in da other.
~As for as mud goes all dis high water is killin me but I would expect da tiller to have a slight advantage over da console when it gets real thick and you need to grind your way out.
~Also if you get a GTR, da console allows you to put a longer rear drop deck. Which I have found dat wit 2' of drop deck, even when trimmed all da way down while full throtle in reverse only a few onces of water make it in da boat.
~Another down size of da hydrolic steerin is dat it does not turn da motor to its fullest potential so it is hard to do powerslides and almost impossible to do 180's and 360's.

I found the same as Quackconsumer posted!Plus-

1.It is nice to drive without your damn arm and hand hurting!!
2.When you hit a log or stump,It don't make you swallow your dip!!
3.You will learn to run tight places a little slower!!
4.After the 3rd trip,You will go to West Marine and purchase you a oh-shit knob for steering wheel!!!

I found mine turned better without the o shit knob. Dam thing just gets in the way. Quack to do 180s the key is to trim the motor all the way up and then turn the wheel. Depends on what your gonna use the boat for if your gonna like the tiller or steering. The only way I will go back to tiller is if I get a skiff. Other than that gonna be steering.

I hunt by myself often and I believe picking up decoys is a lot easier with the tiller.

X2 on the "Oh shit" knob. It's a must. As far as 180's or 360's, there's always Full Power Sideways. :D

Yea because a 45 min drive one way is a lot better with a cc than a tiller. While your hands going numb with that tiller i'm sitting on my azz drinking my coffee.

I think I might actually go the center console route myself, and I'm looking foward to it. we make some long runs, and when it's freezing cold out, it sure is going to be nice. most of my long runs are across wide open, stump infested resivoirs up here in Texas.

yea CC are for puzzies

thats why on all the runs CC rigs hang with tillers all day. so next time the yall get stuck dont start asking that double rig PD to come pull or help pull you out....... Cause it wont be able to get to the same areas as those tillers

I have a cpmplete side console setup for my 18x50 huntdeck gator trax. I can't wait to get it installed. It think the pros will outweight cons considering how little mud and heavy veg I have to run thru. mabye 10% of the time. most of my running is shallow clean water.

Post Re: Tiller vs Center console?
We run both, including a steering dual rig. I run the console with hydro anywhere I run the tiller, got stuck the same and can get out just as easy with the console, it just takes practice. Auto reverse on a console is hands down the coolest thing you will ever run, put it on a dual rig and you have one incredible machine. Our first rigs were teleflex steering and you needed an oh chit knob, the hydro steering you can spin with one finger. You can also get a faster turning hydro helm that will spin the motor in like two turns. We have run a 2060 boat in heavy timber and managed to stay right on the tail of a tiller rig the whole time. On longer runs the console is the best, I can put my hands on my lap and the boat just goes where I pointed it. It all comes down to what you want and are most comfortable with. As noted, you run a console different, you learn to anticipate turns, you throttle back a little in hard turns etc, but you can do some amazing chit once you get a little wheel time under your belt. Now duals are another story, learn to work the individual throttles in conjuntion with steering and you can do stuff no tiller can do, like spin a boat around at speed within the lenght of the boat, steer corners without using the wheel, etc.

Just our experience running both rigs for the past 7 years.
