Post Go Devil Trouble
Go Devil Trouble
Today at 8:56pm I just bought a 25 horse go devil and Im having some problems with it. Im new to the mud motor thing so I have some questions. The motor runs great but it has a vibration down towards the propeller. I removed the caps on each end of the shaft and could only get grease to come out one end of the shaft. The propeller ends grease cap also looks like it is worn to be wider than it should. Do I need to remove the shaft to get grease in it or does it have a bearing I dont know about. Any help is appreciated.

I'm no expert, but you are sure to get many answers... From what I've read, you are doing it ALL wrong. GD need NO maintenance or grease...

Best way to get answers is by callin GD with your frame SN....

But what you were describing sounds pretty normal - the newer units
have bushings with very little clearance for grease to come shootin out...

If they get smokin hot when running out of water - you might have a problem...

You might just have slightly outta balance prop - them LTs will shake / rattle / roll !

Grab the prop and if you can move it up and down or side to side then the seal is bad, replace it, only grease you should be putting in is on the grease Bowl on the shaft, start engine and pump grease into bowl until your float raises up to the cap. That way you know you have grease all the way around the shaft and the bowl is full

if you dont know where it's at you probably don't have one.. Check the bushing like previously stated and if you have slack change the bushing and seals. Personally I would just call Go-Devil and change both bushings and seals. Did you check to see if the shaft was bent?

To make certain you have grease throughout the lenght of the shaft 1) take the lower seal cap off and pump grease until u see it come out at the lower end of the tube 2) replace the lower seal cap and remove the upper seal cap 3) pump grease until it comes out of the upper end of the shaft. Since you don't have the spring loaded lubricator you likely don't have the newer bushings that have the groove that pulls grease along the bushing. Regardless if you have the old bushings without the groove, there should be enough clearance b/n the shaft and bushings to tell if grease is at the upper and lower end of the shaft.

more than likely the lower bushing is wore causing it to be able to move around as stated before. best to go ahead and replaces tha bushings and seals, they are cheap.

Just wait till you start having bearing problems! then the fun starts, and in my case never ends!!!
