I was wondering if I could change the gear ratio on my gator tail I have the marine. Motor and those come with diffrrnt gears than the older models

I thought that the "sweet spot" in stock GTR gearing was 1.2 to 1 on
a 10 pitch GT prop...

If you are going to ask a gear ratio question - you might want to preface
the question with whatever mods you have or intend to add as well as what
prop and pitch you are going to use on final power to the water and a bit of
info on hull and loads...

Good Luck...

I got a stage 2. Ima run the regular 10 pitch prop on a 18x48 boat
My boat was quick right when I got it back but now that I put bout 70 hours on it it has slowed down fastest it ever went was 34 with 2 ppl now I'm lucky if I get 30 31 by ma self the only thing I can see is that I changed. Props but this weekend I put my old prop back on and it so wore out its turning 4300 Rpms like nothing and that's where I usually run it at 4300-4400

70 hrs, it's time to check valve lash & probably wouldn't hurt to do a leakdown test. You said normal rpm @ 4300, what are you turning the new prop?

I wouldn't consider that getting on step but first night was rolling 5 ppl and generator and all stuff. Rolling 25 I was proud until t-Mac burnt me. Made me feel like I was in a go-devil long tail
And I got that prop off had to lock it and get my brother to step on it

They started putting a 48 tooth bottom gear on the marine engines cuz the 45 tooth would loose out with a load. But it was fast as hell empty with the 45 tooth. Alex has a 45 tooth bottom gear and so does Tmac.
