 Will this destroy aluminum?
I have some old ass steelflex on my hull and any slickness properties are now more like an ultra fine sandpaper. I want to get rid of it but there's no way I can sit through scraping at it with a heat gun.
Will the quick strip pad and an angle grinder do the trick? I don't want to grind the aluminum away but the material on the disc is quite flexible and on the surface looks like it won't damage metal. The package says it's meant for epoxy. I just want the "experts" opinions.

 Re: Will this destroy aluminum?
Why do you want to take the steel flex off? Is it chipping off? If so that disc should do it, but there only one way to find out. Typically I would use the same 36 grit wheel I used to prep the hull to put steel flex on to take it off. Get a good mask and eye protection or a big bottle of Jim beam.

It's chipping all under, there are hooks that probably started the chipping. I just tried this thing and it's great, stuff flies off. Wish I found it for my other boats I've had

 Re: Will this destroy aluminum?
That's good to know. I've got to get the SF off my airboat. Been dreading it myself. I use the heat gun and scraper last time, it a lot cleaner but a pain in the ass. This will be my last one though.

 Re: Will this destroy aluminum?
Possibly, but it would be a lot more expensive and the swirl marks will disappear with paint

 Re: Will this destroy aluminum?
That pad will take aluminum off pretty quick so don't stay in one spot long I used it before on aluminum on a drill and it was still taken alum off at slow rpms

 Re: Will this destroy aluminum?
Its too porous. It will clog it up and be useless very quick. If your going to do something like that, use a SS wire wheel. It will do less damage and be more forgiving to the aluminum , remove the steel flex, and won't clog.

 Re: Will this destroy aluminum?
This pad did not destroy aluminum. Worked very well but was very dusty and these things wear out FAST. And they're $10 each. Bought some heavy duty stripper from Home Depot to remove some cheap bed liner I put on the floors and deck and tried it on a patch of old flex steel I left on the bottom - turned the stuff into butter and I wish I had started with the stripper, would have been much cheaper

 Re: Will this destroy aluminum?
Stainless wire wheel is the worst thing to use on aluminum. The stainless bits that stay on the aluminum sets up galvanic corrosion that will cause issues down the road. I know many people use them, but they shouldn't.
