Post 19x52 3X taper info
Guys I'm finalizing the design of my WC custom boat and have a concern on stability. The boat will be 19' x 52" 3/16. I'm doing a 3x Chine.

I want the boat to turn well and also carry a load. My question is when do I start the 3x chine. Do I start after the 52". I want stable boat. My buddies 1648 is super unstable.

Thank you

Is your buddies boat a triple tapered chine?

Most people have the bottom measurement (52" in your case) as the width of the actual flat part of the bottom. A 19' by 52" will be pretty stable.

My 18/56 is super stable , you shouldn't have any issues .

My 44" double taper WC boat .. Is as stable as 54 GT boat ..

Me 250 and a buddy 250 can both stand in front deck and fish no problem .. We put it to the limit by both standing on rail

From what I have seen the difference in stability because of th chine is minimal. It you want stability get a wider boat

Agree ^. Boat makers have nothing to do with the stability. A square chine prodigy and a square chine uncle j of the same length and width would have the same stability !

Well in theory I would agree. However, the 2 makes would have to build identical weighted boats with the weight distrubtion exactly the same. The more evenly weighted boat will be more stable. If the two boats are built correctly thou, you probably wouldn't notice a difference unless you were jumping back and forth to compare

Loved my Uncle J 18X54 3/16. Boat was a beast. Fast as heck and carried a load great. It was a square chine boat. The issue I had was turning at speed. The boat would slide.

I want a fast boat that will carry a load and turn at WOT. The stability is an issue as well.

Can one boat do all this and run 30 mph , stage 2 ??

Thanks !!

I'd get a square chine if they didn't slide so bad on the turns. The bayou on the way to my lease is oxbow . Would have to throttle down every turn. You go 10 miles just to drive 5 lol. That's why I'm going with a triple chine. But I do like how well the square chimes carry a load.

I have a 2054 square chine 3/16 hull as well and it does slide in turns. You have to slow down but its a superfast hull and carrys a load very well. If I had it to do over I would go back with another square chine because u dont have to slow down that much to make a turn and I had rather have the speed and load carrrying ability.

Bow rake and angle has way more to do with stability
at dead stop than chine design - remember several feet
of many hulls are not even in contact with the water....

Your sketch shows a 7 foot bow rake and an 11x52 contact pad...

A lot of 16x48 hulls have bigger contact pads - that might be
a bigger concern or concept to think over ??? Long bow rakes
are faster at WOT but give up some stability at dead stop....

Something to chew on for a while... Round chine boats will be more stable if they're measured by the actual flat bottom width because you have more boat in the water at a stop. Food for thought.

The area I hunt is called fish eating creek. Located in Palmdale Fl. They open up the check station at 5 AM. I got a 15 mile cypress infested dark run to my spot. Takes me about an hour. Crazy turns cypress heads multiple collisions it's crazy. If you miss the trail you wont find out until your 100yards in. The place is loaded with dear & hog

I added a pic shows a .2 mile segment. We do 15 miles in and 15 out.
